Winter : Fertilizing and Preparing for Planting

The Garden of Eatin has a number of “Community Work Days” – especially in the Spring when the garden is being prepared and planted for the Summer harvest.   During the months of February and March many of the North Bay Children Center gardens need to be fertilized with fresh compost – wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow.  It's during these months that we prepare all the beds for their spring planting.

Spring:  Planting

Weather permitting, the best time for spring planting is the last weekend in April. By then the earth has warmed up and is ready to receive tomatoes, corn, green beans, squash and all the other warm weather crops that love our Northern California Coastal climate.

Summer:  Harvest Festivals

This is the best part – sharing in the bounty of the garden with your family.  These annual harvest parties are, in the words of one excited three year old, like having a “garden holiday”.  Join us and help celebrate the bounty of our endeavors.

Fall:  Clean Up

In November/December after the first frost, it is the time to prepare the gardens for hibernation during the dark cold months of winter.
