Our infant program has two divisions, Young Infants for babies 6 weeks to 12 months old and the Older Infant program for ages 12-20 months.
Ages 6 weeks - 12 months
Caregiver-to-young infant ratio is 1:3
The Program Manager and our caregivers take special attention to create an infant environment that is appropriate for the developmental progress of each infant in the program. Classroom toys and other educational materials are rotated each day to stimulate exploration and discovery.
Our facilities for young infants include both sleeping and play areas that allow us to control the amount of stimulation a young infant needs and responds best to through out the day. Adjustable lighting and a comfortable nursing area are also apart of our infant room.
Walks and outside play are a very important part of an infant's growth and development. These outside times are incorporated into the room schedule and change as the needs of the infant changes.
Our infant team works closely with each child's parent(s) to create a "Needs and Service Plan" that focuses on each child's individual needs. Our infant program provides formula (Carnation Good Start) and baby foods including rice and oatmeal cereals. The Needs and Service plan indicates to our staff the food choices parents as well as pediatricians suggest for each infant. These plans are updated as each infant eating develops.
Our lactation lounge is a quiet, comfortable room which allows nursing mothers to feed their infant child in a warm, nurturing setting. Breast milk can be frozen or brought in on a daily basis.
Ages 12-20 months
Caregiver-to-infant ratio 1:4
This program meets the needs of the more mobile baby and provides slightly more structure to the child's day. The children eat their meals together; they graduate from cribs to sleeping mats and take one daily nap. Bottles are eliminated and sippy cups are introduced. The room is set up to allow the mobile infant a safe environment to develop their walking and gross motor skills. Additional age-appropriate activities include music, movement and toys to develop gross motor skills.
