NBCC offers two separate Preschool Programs which are designed to afford children high quality early education and opportunities to interact with other children in a play based setting. Both Preschool Programs write and implement curriculum focused upon meeting the “whole child’s” developmental needs. Programs are flexible in their approach to each individual child’s learning styles and capability.
Our Young Preschool Program serves children ages 2.5 years – 3.5 years with a teacher to child ratio of 1:6.
The YPS program continues to promote social interaction, acquisition of language, cognitive, social, fine motor and gross motor skills. The curriculum is written and implemented to include art activities, music, dramatic play, science activities and circle times. Children learn toileting habits and become fully potty trained before moving on to the Preschool Program. The YPS outdoor play area is arranged so that this age group has ample opportunities to run, climb and increase use of their large muscles, thus contributing to further gross motor development.
In the last afternoon hour (5:30-6:30), the YPS and PS students combine classrooms. This enables the two age groups to interact with each other and all the YPS children to become more familiar with the Preschool classroom they will eventually graduate to.
Our Preschool Program serves children ages 3.5 years – 4.5 years with a teacher to child ratio of 1:12.
Preschool is an exciting, fun place where children discover the wonders of their environment through play based activities which allow for multiple experiences. Language and literacy is a large part of the preschool curriculum as children increase their vocabulary, learning grammar, syntax and proper pronunciation of words. Classroom environments are print rich with a focus on books, reading, art, science, math and dramatic play which affords children the opportunity to “try on” new roles.
Written annual curriculum plans and daily schedules are posted for parents in the Preschool classroom.
