Getting Involved as a Volunteer

Complete your Volunteer Application today! We need your support in the garden, in the classroom, and at events.

NBCC relies heavily on the volunteer efforts of local service organizations, high-school community service programs, retired seniors and local business leaders.  Their commitment to serve on NBCC committees, board membership, work on site improvements, organize fundraising events, help in classrooms and gardens contributes to the long term health of NBCC and the community overall.

In addition, NBCC has been a worksite for the "Day of Caring" volunteers from Fireman's Fund, Rebuilding Together, and Novato Leadership.

As a private non-profit community-based agency, NBCC is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The 15-member board is comprised of community leaders and representatives from NBCC's parent population. NBCC's programs support youth and families by ensuring children are cared for in safe and healthy educational environments, and by assisting families in their goal toward self-sufficiency.

At this time 59% of the families we serve receive tuition assistance, enabling parents to return to the workforce (or continue their education) therefore reducing the cycle of poverty in our community. None of this would be possible without the support of local foundations, corporations, community leaders, and the many individuals who contribute their time and resources.

Community Events

Each year NBCC and our family of supporters must raise more than $270,000 to fill the “gap” between tuition and the actual program cost to make NBCC programs available for the children and our community. This is accomplished through the Annual Fund for Excellence, fundraising events, and foundation grants.

All of our events rely on volunteer committees, corporate sponsors, individual donation as well as auction donations. Each event is chaired and coordinated by our Board of Directors and Executive Director in collaboration with community volunteers.

Please contact NBCC at (415)883-6222 for more information on how you can join this working partnership to raise needed funds for our children as an event volunteer, event sponsor or to donate an auction item.

All proceeds support NBCC's scholarship program that provides tuition assistance to low income families, NBCC's hot meal program and our Garden of Eatin nutrition education program.
